Our approach to MCAT exam prep

Your MCAT tutor will work with your schedule

We founded AJ Tutoring with an understanding of the time constraints on modern students, leading us to develop a highly efficient and customized approach to improving a student’s MCAT score. Our MCAT tutors are available for in-person or online sessions.

A customized approach to MCAT tutoring

In sessions, our 1-on-1 MCAT tutors help students build confidence in their unique trouble spots, increasing the chances of significant improvement in a relatively short period of time. This is especially important given the quantity and variety of content tested on the MCAT:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Organic chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Physics
  • Psychology
  • Sociology
  • Reading comprehension
  • Scientific inquiry and reasoning

Many MCAT tutoring services require a student to work with multiple part-time tutors (one MCAT tutor for each section of the test) for 30-60 hours, or work with students in group settings. AJ Tutoring matches each student with a single professional educator for a customized MCAT preparation. This approach results in an efficient and effective student-tutor relationship, allowing us to best understand and modify each student’s thought processes throughout the exam. We recommend 20-25 hours of 1-on-1 MCAT test prep with a tutor over 3-6 months, but we are flexible in working within different time frames.

What does our MCAT exam prep cover?

Our MCAT tutoring services focus on dissecting a student’s errors on the best MCAT practice materials available; quantifying progress via full-length practice exams and smaller problem sets; guiding individualized content review; thorough discussion of conceptually difficult material; test-taking techniques; answer elimination and guessing strategies; and pacing and stamina.

Learn more about the MCAT exam

The central test for medical school applications, the MCAT is developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Its revision in 2015 added Psychology and Sociology to an already content-packed exam. The computer-based MCAT exam is administered approximately 30 times per calendar year, from mid-January to mid-September.

Happy parents and students.

"I had a great experience working with Peter Littlefield to prepare for the MCAT. This is the second exam I've prepared for with AJ Tutoring, and their help has always been on-point and fantastic. Peter is very supportive and knowledgeable. He does a great job managing study schedules, reviewing material (practice tests, missed questions, content), and going over test-taking strategies. One of the best things I liked about our sessions was how he would deconstruct practice questions to get into the mindset of the test writers."
