Measurable Results.

We are devoted to making measurable differences in your college prospects, starting at the beginning of your high school career.

The Relative Importance of the SAT.

While many colleges remain test-optional, there is a continuing trend toward the most competitive elite colleges requiring the SAT. Many factors contribute to college admission prospects, including grades, standardized test scores, essays, and extracurricular activities.

Short-Term SAT Prep and Academics for Life.

Because grades are about twice as important as SAT scores, we do not advocate long-term preparation for the SAT and instead encourage our ninth-graders and sophomores to focus on academic excellence. This is the only true long-term strategy for improving SAT scores, and AJ Tutoring has an outstanding team of professional tutors to help students achieve their full potential in academic subjects.

What is the PSAT?

The PSAT is a practice SAT offered to sophomores and juniors in October. It is the same format as the SAT and covers nearly identical content. Thus, your PSAT score is usually a good indicator of your future SAT performance. PSAT scores become available online in early November

At AJ Tutoring, we believe that students should take advantage of the PSAT as a unique chance to practice in conditions that simulate the actual SAT. With this goal in mind, we recommend meeting with one of our tutors for three 90-minute sessions to prepare for the PSAT. Although not a comprehensive course, the three sessions allow us to impart to you the most critical test-taking skills and strategies and to address your biggest weak spot. You can then approach the PSAT with a customized game plan. Students who take the PSAT seriously often feel more confident when they take their first SAT.

Should I take the ACT instead of the SAT?

While the ACT and SAT are substantially similar, some students do demonstrate a preference for one test over the other, and many students benefit from trying both. Read more about the difference between these tests here.

How do I register for the SAT?

You can register for the SAT on the College Board’s website. Many testing locations fill up quickly, so register early for the best opportunity to test at a convenient location.
