Biography

My name is Sherry Chiang. I am a Reed College graduate who studied studio art and has worked as a brand and product designer. In addition to working in the art field, I have also worked as a tutor for over 10 years. I have experience tutoring a multitude of academic subjects, ranging from algebra to calculus, biology, chemistry, U. S. history, and more. I have taught both kids and adults, ranging from ages 5 to 45. In addition, I scored in the 99th percentile of the ACT and PSAT.

Working with students, many of whom face significant academic challenges, has helped me understand the importance of individualized solutions. For example, I supported a student who struggled with focus and motivation. By breaking tasks into manageable steps, introducing interactive methods like timed exercises, and providing consistent encouragement. These techniques not only helped improve his grades but also rebuilt his confidence.

Throughout my career, I’ve prioritized solving complex problems with empathy and collaboration. In my previous job doing design work, I partnered with cross-functional teams to design and refine features that improved user experiences for those seeking mental health support. My work included enhancing onboarding processes, simplifying user profiles, and developing tools like journaling and mood mapping to help users track their emotional well-being.

I believe my passion for mental health, art, and reading shine through my tutoring sessions. I use my background in both my design and career and my teaching experience to support my students both emotionally and academically.

In my free time I love to read, practice my art skills, and learn even more about psychology by reading textbooks or watching Ted Talks.
