Team Leader, Test Prep Tutor, and Academic Tutor

Biography

I began tutoring when I was in high school as a member of the National Honor Society. That experience taught me that anyone can learn anything with the right support and dedication. Nearly two decades later as a veteran educator and team leader, I still think the same thing!

I have always had a passion for learning, both in life and in academics. I earned my bachelor’s degree at Academy of Art University, where I received the prestigious Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence. I continued my education with a post baccalaureate certificate in biochemical sciences at San Francisco State University. I then furthered my education by pursuing my master’s degree at Arizona State University where I studied biology with an emphasis in molecular biology and scientific teaching. My academic pursuits have ranged from psychology and neuroscience, to chemistry and mathematics, to classic literature and film history.

Teaching the SAT  allows me to share my passion for multiple subjects with my students. I understand how important these types of tests can be in opening opportunities. Because of my scores on the Golden State Exam in mathematics while in middle school, I was able to attend a private high school on academic scholarship. My high SAT scores in high school earned me distinction on graduating and helped lay the foundation for when I took the GRE prior to applying for my graduate education. In my test preparation sessions, I balance content review with test taking strategies, but my goal is always to decrease the stress students face when it comes to testing and to increase their confidence in what they know and what they can accomplish.

I also love to support my students’ academic pursuits and feel grateful that I am able to help my students in a myriad of topics including math, science, history, and English. I truly love to learn, and it is so fun for me to work with my amazing students to support them on their academic paths. While I worked in the healthcare sector for many years and in other teaching positions, I truly love how I am able to help and support my students in a one on one setting.

In my free time, I enjoy learning about film theory, scientific phenomena, and niche history. When I need a break from cerebral pursuits, I enjoy practicing aerobics, pilates, and crafts. I also love animals and have a beautiful, fluffy Australian Shepherd and twelve wacky chickens.

Happy Parents and Students
