Peter Fontaine

Education Manager, College Counselor, and Academic Tutor

Biography

With over 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, tutor, and administrator I am excited to be a part of AJ Tutoring where I can work with students one-on-one as a tutor and college consultant.

My career in education began as a college instructor and writing tutor at the University of Nevada during my masters program. Later, when I pursued my PhD in Atlanta, I continued tutoring because I felt the most rewarding work was always the one-on-one interaction with students. Eventually, in my post-doctoral life, I shifted over to working in tutoring centers full time, first as a professional tutor, and later as an administrator. I place the highest value on tutoring as a way of teaching. Each student is able to have the tutor’s full attention and benefit from pedagogy that is tailor made to fit their needs.

My PhD is in English and creative writing. Of all the skills that students learn and refine through their education, reading and writing is always one of the core subjects that fuel student success in all areas. Tutoring, specifically writing tutoring, is something I’ve always done, from graduate student to post-doctorate and beyond, and the longer I’ve done it, the more meaningful it has been to me. My education has enriched my life far more than I could ever have dreamed, and I hope to continue paying it forward to all the students I meet in the years to come.

In addition to my years of experience as a writing tutor I have added many other subjects to my roster. Most importantly, as a post-doctorate and professional tutor I worked with students applying to universities and grad programs. I provided guidance and support for college applications, personal statements, writing samples, and application essays. Along the way I developed a passion for supporting students as they transition into the next major phase of their educational career. Helping students evaluate and prepare for their college future is one of the most rewarding and fulfilling duties I can perform as an educator.

The most significant work to be done is assisting students with accomplishing their goals. Whether it’s helping them improve their writing skills or craft the perfect personal statement for their application to their ideal college, I am devoted to providing the best support I can to my students to achieve their goals.

"The most helpful part about my tutoring is they make it fun to learn, explains things well, and makes me feel comfortable. "
