Biography

I’ve been a tutor almost as long as I’ve been a student, beginning as a peer tutor in high school and later serving as a homework assistant, university tutor, and course teaching assistant. Throughout these experiences, I discovered that tutoring wasn’t just about providing answers—it was about guiding others to find their own. I found joy in helping others clarify concepts that were once confusing and leading them toward new ways of thinking they hadn’t considered. The most rewarding aspect of tutoring for me has been seeing the transformation in my tutees as they gain confidence in their abilities.

During my time at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, I pursued a degree in philosophy and linguistics. My education allowed me to delve deeper into my interests in writing, logic, and language. My studies in formal logic provided a strong foundation for teaching others how to approach writing and reading comprehension. Through courses in ethics and the study of language structure, I honed my ability to think critically, which has been invaluable in my tutoring.

As a tutor, I pride myself on being patient and adaptive to the unique learning styles of each student. My goal is always to create a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions and exploring their own thought processes. I enjoy breaking down complex concepts into digestible steps and watching as students realize they are capable of solving problems on their own. To me, the mark of a successful tutoring session isn’t just about the student grasping the material, but also about them leaving with a sense of accomplishment and self-assurance.

Outside of academics, I am an avid fashionphile with a creative streak. I’ve crocheted and upcycled much of my wardrobe, combining my love for sustainability with my passion for fashion. This hobby has taught me the value of patience and creativity, skills that translate well into my work as a tutor. Just as I carefully craft each piece of clothing, I approach each tutoring session with attention to detail and a desire to help students build something meaningful—whether it’s a well-written essay or a solid understanding of a difficult concept.

In addition to my love for fashion, I enjoy crafting, cooking, yoga, and hiking. These activities allow me to unwind and stay balanced. Whether I’m exploring a new hiking trail or perfecting a recipe, I find that these hobbies offer a sense of accomplishment similar to what I experience when a student reaches an academic breakthrough. Each of these passions adds a layer to who I am, enriching my ability to connect with and support my students.
