Biography

I’m a Bay Area native, born in San Mateo and an Aragon alumni. I went on to graduate from San Jose State University where I studied mathematics. I focused on economics and actuarial science, but growing up I would have never guessed that’s where I would end up. I was a typical high school student with an interest in music: I played for the school orchestra and the peninsula youth orchestra growing up, so everyone thought I would be a musician.

My passion for tutoring and education comes from a good community college professor who took the time to mentor me, offering me the support and guidance I needed in order to succeed in my educational career. As a result of my professor’s help, I become a peer tutor and honor student at College of San Mateo. As someone who has both disastrously failed and excelled past all expectations, I offer a unique understanding and perspective for students. I understand the importance of tailored support and seek to help my students develop their confidence in their own potential.

I came to love mathematics because it is essentially problem solving, and I value the ways in which these problem solving skills apply to our lives beyond the classroom. Math basically says, “Here’s what you have — that’s all you get. Now, how are you going to get from point A to point B?” At San Jose State, I learned that you can do a lot even if you’re only given a little.

During my time at CSM, I tutored students in trigonometry, physics, and astronomy. These tutoring experiences gave me an appreciation for the enjoyment I find in helping students improve their study skills and take full advantage of their education. I rapidly became the go-to person in my social circle for anyone looking for help when it came to high school or college coursework.

It is my goal to teach students not only course material, but also useful skills when it comes to time management, motivation, and goal setting. In other words, I want to instill in my students a mindset that  leads to success not only in an academic setting, but also in any new endeavor.
