I love teaching because it brings an element of discovery and wonder when learning something new, and I experience that alongside my students.
I went to college at Cal Poly Pomona, where I studied physics and aerospace engineering, eventually earning my degree in physics. A transformative professor taught me to understand physics at its most basic level, which inspired me to build that knowledge into more advanced concepts. Now, as an instructor, I strive to support my students in seeking that foundational understanding and using it to reach new heights.
During college, I helped my classmates with their homework, and friends frequently asked me to tutor them one-on-one. I was more than happy to do so because I wanted them to appreciate the beauty of physics and succeed.  I learned the power of providing direct support through one-on-one tutoring.
As a graduate teaching associate at San Jose State University, I taught algebra-based physics. I loved interacting with students and witnessing their enlightening “light-bulb moments.” Now, I aim to create an approachable, curiosity-driven environment where students can test their ideas and make discoveries for themselves. In my tutoring approach, I prioritize the student. I use an active learning style grounded in the principle that students come to me with concepts necessary for learning new material.
I fundamentally believe all my students are capable of succeeding; they simply need the space to explore. I maintain an open environment where they can experiment with ideas, allowing me to understand how they perceive the material and tailor my questions to foster discovery and learning.
In the past, I have served as a mentor to underrepresented and first-generation college students. I helped them navigate the process of asking for letters of recommendation, developing soft skills, and even securing their first internships! Witnessing my mentees succeed is a huge motivator for me, and I strive to put in my utmost effort for their success. I carry this rich background into my work with students at AJ.
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy bowling, playing the guitar and piano, and diving into board games, especially social deduction games like “Blood on the Clocktower.” I also conduct active research in astroparticle physics and gravity, so feel free to ask me about getting a head start on research in college!
