Biography

My education at Pacific University instilled in me a foundation of empowering education, focused on supporting learners towards their goals. I embarked on a journey to create spaces where curiosity meets guidance, spending two years in the public sector teaching at a high-needs school. Backed by degrees in Physics, Mathematics, and Education, I worked tirelessly to help learners become high achievers. In my classroom, I strived to integrate real-world challenges and solutions, fostering a sense of global responsibility and critical thinking in my learners.

In my time teaching, I never settled for rinse-and-repeat answers to questions, preferring to instead facilitate and guide my learners to aim higher, and truly internalize the material. In doing so, they became inquisitive, self-motivated learners who could tackle topics and ideas head-on. AJ Tutoring especially facilitates this through its 1-1 guidance, allowing learners to have a personalized experience to tackle their unique needs and challenges. This more directed environment appealed to me because it makes the support the learners receive more apparent, helping build confidence.

At AJ, I specialize in physics and chemistry, tapping into my experience as a high school science teacher. This focus is supported by broader knowledge of multiple other subjects, such as biology and earth sciences, and even non-sciences, such as language arts. Watching learners realize and understand how the world works is an incredibly rewarding experience, especially when it’s the result of committed work and collaboration.

When not facilitating learning, I unwind by exploring the boundless realms of literature and creative writing with my partner, often discussing themes of sustainability and social equity in our favorite works. Additionally, I run tabletop games for friends, serving as the group’s facilitator, and do independent research on permaculture and phytoremediation.
