Biography
After graduating from Scripps College in sunny Claremont, CA, I dedicated myself to education and the craft of teaching. My chosen field has taken me in many directions–from working with first graders in East San Jose to tutoring calculus students in Los Gatos and Saratoga–and it has proven more rewarding than I could have imagined.
I began at AJ Tutoring with a focus on SAT test prep, but over time I added academic math, high school entrance exam prep, study skills, and graduate test prep to my tutoring repertoire. In addition to my tutoring practice, I have been fortunate to collaborate with a fantastic team of educators here as the Academic Director. These opportunities for growth, training, and community have been key to my ability to provide excellent support to my students from the beginning, and part of what make AJ Tutoring so special!
The SAT is still one of my favorite tests to teach, as it was so vital to my own college experience; I was able to fully finance my attendance at my first-choice college after I earned a perfect 1600 on my SAT. Helping students achieve their highest potential on this test is tremendously rewarding, and the strategies we offer at AJ Tutoring are some of the most powerful I’ve seen. I have also had the pleasure of working with students of all math levels as they pursue better grades in their coursework and deeper understanding in math generally. I enjoy finding the right balance between caring for and challenging my students so that at the end of our sessions their confidence is high. As the leader of a team of tutors, I work hard to help my team achieve this balance with their own students.
When I’m not spending time in my cozy Highway 9 office, I enjoy reading sci-fi and fantasy novels, working on my drawing skills, and cooking with my kids (my 3-year-old makes excellent pancakes)!
