Biography

My passion for math and teaching has led me to a full-time career at AJ Tutoring, where I work hard to share my enthusiasm for learning with my students.  Over the past few years I have helped students of all ability levels improve their understanding of difficult math concepts and have given them the tools to succeed on standardized tests.  My teaching style is Socratic; I prefer asking leading questions to spoon-feeding formulas because I want my students to grow as independent learners outside of our lessons.

One of the best parts of my job is that I can pursue multiple passions, and I love the balance I have between helping students grow in math and preparing them for college entrance exams. My studies at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo helped me develop an appreciation for the abstract beauty of higher-level math, and I am fortunate to be able to share that appreciation with both the students I teach and the new tutors I mentor. I also know how strongly standardized test scores impact students’ college prospects, and I love giving students an edge on their exams. The SAT and the ACT are both highly predictable tests, and in my professional experience I have found that reviewing basic content and teaching powerful test-taking techniques makes these exams far more manageable.

Aside from tutoring, I am an avid football fan who has no problem painting his room solid red and gold for his favorite team. I spend most of my time outside work either plucking around on my guitars or working on my fitness.
