Biography

I’ve always loved learning and exploring the intricacies of systems since a young age and this is where my love for teaching stems from. I would love to help others understand the world we live in through critical thinking. My first tutoring experience was in high school, as I taught my classmates concepts that they did not fully understand. Ultimately, that led me to set up a tutoring program for underserved high school students in Nigeria.

Though born in Texas, I was raised in Lagos, Nigeria, where my passion for knowledge began. This passion took me across the Atlantic to UC San Diego, where I earned my B.S. in Bioengineering (Biotechnology) as a premed student. Following graduation, I realized that I was more interested in research. This realization led me to UC Berkeley, where I am a PhD student focusing on engineering microbes for the synthesis of biofuels and commodity chemicals. My choice of research stems from many reasons including my love for chemistry and physics. Through these two subjects, I can better understand the interactions of matter on a macro and micro scale and the possibilities of the application of this knowledge are endless!

My tutoring experience is extensive, as I have been tutoring formally and informally since high school and college. I served as a teaching assistant for a large introductory Bioengineering class for freshmen and sophomores. I was also privileged to help in the creation and teaching of a lab skills course to teach gifted high school students about the intricacies of bioengineering. Finally, both my passion and teaching skills led me to enroll in PAL (Partners at Learning) program at my alma mater, which gave me the privilege to mentor students in the fifth grade. I believe that anyone can be an expert on any subject matter through discipline, persistence and curiosity! As a tutor, it’s my job to not only teach you the subjects but also help you foster those qualities. Aside from tutoring, I do Brazilian Jiujitsu, surfing and playing video games.
