Biography

I was born and raised in Santa Clara, California, and attended Wilcox High School. I graduated with high honors from UC Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in legal studies and a minor in LGBT studies. Throughout my educational career, I found that the most effective teachers were those who tailored their approaches to meet the unique needs of each student, which I now strive to emulate. As an educator, I’ve learned that patience, empathy, and clear communication are essential in helping students succeed, no matter where their starting point is.

My interest in history stems from a lifelong fascination with how events of the past shape our world today. I enjoy teaching students how to think critically about historical events and their contexts, helping them connect the dots between history and current events. I also enjoy tutoring elementary and middle school students because I get to introduce them to a wide range of topics across the curriculum, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to think analytically from an early age.

I discovered my passion for tutoring in high school, when I began volunteering as an assistant coach at a basketball skills clinic for children ranging from 7 to 15 years old. I found teaching young players fundamentals and seeing their confidence grow with practice to be incredibly rewarding. Later, in college, I interned with a nonprofit organization as a computer literacy tutor for adults and worked with clients to help them develop essential technology skills necessary to navigate the modern workforce. These experiences showed me how meaningful it can be to empower individuals through learning, and they solidified my desire to continue tutoring and mentoring in various subjects. It has been wonderful to continue this type of work with my students at AJ.

My tutoring approach is highly individualized. I focus on understanding each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style to customize my lessons accordingly. Whether I’m addressing time management, test anxiety, or specific content gaps, I use a combination of practice problems, discussions, and feedback to help students achieve their goals. I also emphasize the importance of critical thinking and problem-solving, as the value of these skills extends beyond the scope of the classroom.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy playing basketball, roadtripping, and crocheting.
