Beck Tran (She/They)

Academic Tutor

Biography

I’ve always been drawn to problem-solving—whether it was working through a tough math problem, figuring out a physics concept, or breaking down a tricky test question. Tutoring started as a way for me to help friends in school, but I quickly realized how much I enjoyed it. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a student go from feeling stuck to having that “aha” moment. Over the years, I’ve found that every student learns differently, and I love the challenge of figuring out the best way to explain a concept so it clicks.

I grew up in Washington state and went on to study Legal Studies at UC Berkeley. My education pushed me to think critically and approach problems from multiple angles—skills that are just as important in math and science as they are in law. This way of thinking has shaped how I tutor, helping students break down complex ideas into smaller, more manageable pieces. I’m excited to take this approach even further when I start my J.D. at Georgetown Law in the fall.

My interest in problem-solving has led me to explore a wide range of subjects, from math and statistics to physics and test prep. I love finding patterns, making connections between ideas, and helping students see the bigger picture. Whether we’re working on SAT strategies or tackling a challenging calculus problem, my goal is to make learning feel less overwhelming and more engaging.

I’ve worked with students across different ages and skill levels, helping them with everything from building strong foundations to mastering advanced concepts. When it comes to test prep, I focus not just on content but also on strategy—how to manage time effectively, recognize patterns in questions, and approach the test with confidence.

My tutoring style is flexible and interactive. I tailor each session to what the student needs, whether that means breaking things down step by step, finding real-world examples, or going through practice problems together. I believe that learning should be a conversation, not just a lecture, so I encourage students to ask questions and think critically rather than just memorize formulas.

Outside of tutoring, I love playing with my chinchillas, hiking, and checking out new cafes. Whether it’s a scenic trail or a cozy coffee shop, I’m always up for exploring new places.

Happy Parents and Students

"I'd recommend them because the you get a more detailed lesson in my opinion, rather than the teacher just going through the curriculum like at school."
