Biography

My first job was when I was 15, teaching elementary school children how to dance. Since then, I have worked in education in various capacities. I have tutored different subjects throughout high school and college, taught swimming courses, and even worked as a camp director, managing both younger and older kids at the camps. Before joining AJ, I served as a substitute high school teacher, covering a range of subjects. Education has always felt natural to me. Having once struggled in school, I am passionate about educating and tutoring to ensure that all students can succeed and thrive.

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and have lived in Foster City my entire life. I attended San Mateo High School and later earned my bachelor’s degree at UC Santa Cruz, double majoring in history and philosophy. I fully understand how the school system works in the Bay Area and recognize how competitive it can be, especially for those aspiring to attend the best colleges in the country.

I love teaching both history and English. In today’s world, it is crucial for students to learn history not just for rote memorization, but to develop critical thinking skills and understand our current world in the context of past events. The transition from high school to college can be challenging, and many students may find the leap into essay writing, research, and public speaking daunting compared to their high school experiences. I aim to help students view history and English as engaging subjects that are important and relevant to their daily lives.

My tutoring approach focuses on ensuring that students know I am prepared to assist them with their homework, note-taking, research, essay writing, and any other support they may need. Being a high school student involves more than many realize, and I want to help students develop all the skills necessary for success in high school and eventually in college. If a student excels at taking notes but struggles with research at home, I will work with them to develop good research skills. If they need help studying for a test, I’ll assist them in finding effective study methods and using our time to enhance memorization and study skills.

Outside of tutoring, I enjoy surfing, making music, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and playing video games!
