Winter break is the perfect time to recharge, but it’s also an opportunity to get ahead academically. Consistent tutoring during this break can make all the difference in maintaining momentum and building confidence for the next semester. Instead of losing valuable skills or forgetting material, students can use this time to reinforce their understanding. Getting caught up or staying ahead of the game is critical to a student’s continued success!
How Can You Catch Up this Winter?
Winter tutoring provides the space to focus on challenging concepts, review previous coursework, or even preview upcoming material. By staying engaged, students can return to school feeling prepared and ready to succeed. Take advantage of this time to ensure a smooth start in the new year. Here are some steps you can take:
- Work with your tutor twice a week instead of your standard once a week schedule
- Sign up for some prep courses or start looking into SAT/ACT test preparation
- Connect with a College Counselor to get a customized plan for the rest of the year
- Set a reading goal! Whether its pages or total books, get reading!
- Practice your math facts
- Pick a topic you are interested in and do some research! Write a report or create an interactive presentation
- Memorize a poem or lines in a play you are interested in
Why are academics important?
While the winter break isn’t as long as the summer one, we can still see some learning loss occur. The topics covered in first semester are still so new, that without continued practice student’s can get rusty. Practicing their newly gained skills, and filling in foundational gaps, will help build their confidence ahead of the second semester. Whatever you choose to do over the winter break to catch up, keep academics at the top of your list!
