Course Description:

This course offers students a taste of a college-style history course, abridged and approachable for a high school student. We will take a deep dive into Apartheid South Africa to gain an understanding of a complex and fascinating moment in history. Rather than a text book, this course will incorporate tailored readings that allow students to explore their own interests.

Throughout the course, students will develop in-depth skills in research and analysis by examining both primary and secondary sources. We’ll address how to utilize a database, use secondary sources, and organize research. Students will have an opportunity to write an original 2-4 page essay or craft a 5-10 minute presentation on a key event in 20th century South African history utilizing their own research.
