Biography

I’m passionate about teaching and learning, and nothing excites me more than seeing a student’s eyes light up when they grasp a new concept. My tutoring adventure began when I served as a teaching assistant for a general chemistry class at San Jose State University. It was there I discovered the joy of breaking down complex ideas into understandable parts. This experience inspired me to also focus on tutoring K-8 students in math and reading, helping them build essential skills in a fun and engaging way.

I grew up in San Mateo and graduated from the University of California, Davis, with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, and a minor in public health. I’m currently pursuing my master’s in chemistry at San Jose State University with an emphasis in biochemistry. Throughout my education, I’ve always leaned on the support of tutors to enhance my learning, which has deeply influenced my desire to teach others.

I first encountered my love for chemistry during a rocky start in my freshman year, almost leading me to switch majors. But, after sticking with it and exploring the subject through tutoring and study groups, I found my passion. Today, as a tutor, I get to help others find their own love for chemistry, showing them that with patience and persistence, they too can master anything. Similarly, with younger students, I take great pride in making math and reading not just accessible, but also enjoyable, fostering an early love for learning that can last a lifetime.

Over the years, I’ve worn many hats as an educator: from helping elementary students enhance their reading and math skills to guiding pre-teens at the Khan Lab School in setting their own learning objectives. My role as a resident advisor in college and later as a camp counselor allowed me to refine my mentorship and leadership skills. Currently, in my other job as a teaching assistant for general chemistry, I oversee lab sections, guiding students through the fascinating world of chemical reactions.

My tutoring approach is simple: each student is unique, and by understanding their individual needs and goals, I can help them succeed. In our sessions, I strive to create a personalized and engaging learning environment that encourages growth and confidence.

When I’m not tutoring, I love exploring new coffee shops, cross-stitching, catching the latest movies, and spending time with my family and friends.
