Biography

Born and raised in San Jose as a child of two teacher parents, it was inevitable that I would fall in love with tutoring. Starting in high school, people would often come up to me for help in my physics and math classes. I was surprised to find out how amazing it felt to help others understand topics that I felt comfortable with. This was the first spark that led me to the path I am on now.

I found my love for physics through my high school teacher. She not only showed her passion for physics, but her enthusiasm to help students learn difficult concepts. Little did I realize I was watching someone do exactly what I wanted to do in life. While majoring in Physics at UC Davis, I joined a program called College Corps where I worked as an AVID (an academic support system that helps students prepare for college) tutor at a local middle school.

Immediately I realized how happy I felt mentoring and tutoring the students I worked with. This program helped me expand my range of subjects, grade levels, and methods. I see K-8 as the years that really establish which topics students tend to gravitate towards. Sometimes students create mental barriers in subjects they don’t understand the instant they see it. With some guidance, we can show them that they are capable of succeeding in every subject they believe they struggle in. Helping students find their spark of understanding is why I love tutoring!

From my experience I have established a tutoring philosophy that I bring to every tutoring session. I believe every student learns in a different way and it is essential that the tutor can adapt to the student. The 1-on-1 format is the perfect outlet for a tutor to find the best method to help the student succeed. A wholehearted effort by the tutor is essential in every facet of the tutoring process and I always hold these standards for every person I work with. Every time I give 100% effort when tutoring, no matter how difficult or easy the subject matter is.

Outside of tutoring, I like to spend my time hiking, playing basketball, reading, and drawing fun pictures off of Pinterest!
