An Introduction to AP History
AP history classes are starting to ramp up, and sometimes that first unit test doesn’t go quite as a student wants. Be it AP US history, AP World, or AP Euro, if this is a student’s first time taking an AP history class, the nuances of the test questions can be tricky. The four main types of questions are stimulus based multiple choice questions (so questions about a specific document or image), short answer questions (some have documents, some do not), document based essay questions, and long essay questions (no documents, you get to rely on your memory!).
While teachers often try their best to prepare students for these types of questions, it’s often the case that students simply need further practice or explanations they cannot get in class. There is just not enough time for a teacher to cover all of the essential tips and strategies as thoroughly or as vigorously as students may need to succeed on all portions of their exams. Because of this, students frequently find themselves in need of additional help or outside resources, but where to find these resources – and more importantly, find resources of high quality – can be challenging.
