Biography

I hail from sunny Los Angeles, but I consider the Bay Area my second home. I have a deep love for the humanities and arts. I graduated from Stanford, where I earned my B.A. in English (with a creative writing focus) and my M.A. in Music, Science, and Technology.

Throughout my college years, I had the privilege of tutoring and mentoring a wide range of students (from elementary schoolers to international graduate students) in both academic English and music. I have brought this experience with me into my work at AJ Tutoring where I’ve since focused on helping students with standardized test preparation, academic English, and essay writing. I stepped away for a few years to explore my other passion (visual arts) but ultimately returned to AJ. I realized that tutoring is truly my calling, and I find 1-on-1 tutoring deeply meaningful and fulfilling.

As a tutor, my goal is to foster my students’ self-confidence, resourcefulness, and work ethic. Test preparation and school assignments may not always be exciting (let’s be honest, they can be downright stressful), but they still present wonderful opportunities to practice self-awareness, creative problem-solving, and patient persistence, all of which are also beneficial for other life endeavors. I want my students to come away from our sessions with greater belief in their ability to tackle life’s challenges, academic and otherwise.

Outside of AJ, I enjoy creating art, discovering new music, and spending time with friends and family.

Happy Parents and Students

"My tutor explained concepts to me little by little and broke them down into small and less intimidating steps. She figured out how I learned early on and adjusted his teaching to work for me."
