Biography

I was born and raised in San Jose where, fun fact, my elementary school, middle school, and high school were all on the same street. Another constant for me in school was my passion for the sciences, especially biology and chemistry. I enjoyed learning why the world works the way it does, from big questions to the little things, like why leaves are green or why ice floats.

I took this passion for chemistry and biology with me to UC Davis, where I graduated with a major in Physiology and minor in Public Health. During my time there, I served in a variety of positions from line cook, to dental assistant, to festival security, to president of a fraternity. However, my favorite and most rewarding job was working as a tutor for UC Davis’s Academics Assistance and Tutoring Center. Tutoring in both 1-on-1 and group environments, I had had the privilege of meeting students from all different backgrounds.

I know from experience that academics can be tough, but I believe learning is an exponential process.  Each new piece of knowledge and connection builds upon the last, creating a foundation that spurs further learning. As a tutor, my philosophy is to encourage students to embrace challenges and guide them through this exponential process so they can grow into more capable thinkers and individuals. Ultimately, my goal is to help my students reach their goal, whether it may be to pass that class or get into their college of choice.

Outside of working for AJ Tutoring, I enjoy powerlifting, designing floral bouquets, and going to concerts.

Happy Parents and Students

"I've already recommended AJ to some friends struggling in Chem! They really helped explain why formulas in chemistry exist in a way that was memorable and easy to comprehend."
