Biography

As with many children, my curiosity was limitless. I would always ask my parents why many things happened, how things worked, and why I had to go to bed earlier than they did. They would explain the answers, and I would respond, in every parent’s favorite way, by asking a follow up question: “Why?” Going through school, I grew to adore the “aha!” moments of figuring out a particularly difficult puzzle or problem, and I would frequently help classmates when they felt stuck with their studies.

I am a San Jose native and a first-generation college student. I went to Westmont High School, earned an associate’s degree in physics, and transferred to UC Santa Cruz to earn a B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology.

A career in education and tutoring was not a path that I strongly considered until a chemistry professor in college suggest I give tutoring a try at the campus tutoring center. There, I developed an appreciation for the variety of personalities and learning styles that come to bear when learning new and challenging topics. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz, I was fortunate to gain experience as a teacher covering mathematics and science topics across middle and high school.

Through my experiences teaching, I have developed a strong conviction that everyone is capable of learning any topic. While some students may experience difficulties and become discouraged, I am convinced the most important part of learning is perseverance and building a strong foundation.

In my free time, I enjoy playing video and board games, trying new food, losing myself in educational documentaries, and attempting to expand my skills.
