Tyler Pham

Test Prep & Academic Tutor

Biography

Up through high school, I had been a strong math student. It wasn’t until calculus that all of that confidence became my downfall. Afraid to ask for help, I silently struggled on my own. It wasn’t until two teachers had both spoken with me and consoled my fears that I began to learn again and appreciate the process of learning new, challenging material. This experience has moved me to pick a similar path and help make the uneasy feel at ease.

I was born and raised in Apex, NC, and moved cross country to attend Santa Clara University. I learned the joy of struggling through the hardest of materials and made many friends along the way, and we often tutored one another and worked together on material. I recall being elated to collaboratively work through content we found difficult.

After graduating from university, I was a high school math teacher for three years. I learned a lot of my own strengths in teaching as well as my own focuses for student growth and development being able to see it day to day. As a tutor, my philosophy is to make meaningful steps towards achievement by bolstering not only our knowledge and ability, but our confidence as well.

I have a strong passion for teaching math as I want others to feel the same support I felt from my own past teachers and to believe in their own abilities. My goal is to make math be for everybody and to dispel the common “I am not a math person” belief that students hold. As a test preparation tutor as well, I enjoy helping break down the difficult nature of the SAT and ACT exams and helping students find relief from text anxiety.

I am also a long-time comic collector of both American and Japanese comics.
