Biography

I grew up in the East Bay, and my passion for education and its transformative power has always been a driving force in my life. I derive immense joy and fulfillment from sharing knowledge and helping others grow, which is why I find tutoring so rewarding.

My journey as a tutor began in high school, where I participated in academic programs like AVID and worked part-time to assist K-8 students with their homework. Despite living in Hayward, I attended Oakland Charter High School in downtown Oakland before venturing across the country to pursue a major in biomedical engineering at Columbia University. During my time there, I continued tutoring local Harlem high school students in geometry.

Upon graduating, I briefly worked at a medical device company before deciding to further my education at UC Berkeley, where I obtained a master’s in translational medicine. At Berkeley, I also regularly tutored undergraduate students in calculus at the Fannie Lou Hamer Black Resource Center on campus.

My goal is to make a lasting impact in students’ educations and serve as a role model for underrepresented minorities. I deeply value the role of mentorship and guidance in shaping one’s academic journey, and my personal experiences have fueled my desire to inspire others to explore the wonders of science and engineering. At AJ Tutoring, I enjoy supporting elementary and middle school students in developing foundational skills so that they can pursue their interests while fostering in them a love of learning and interest in their studies.

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, playing basketball, and watching live sports on ESPN.
