Biography

I was born and raised in the Bay Area and received my bachelor’s degree in mathematics from San Jose State University. I have been interested from a young age in teaching and in developing positive relationships with students that encourage and facilitate their learning and growth. This passion has guided me toward a career in education.

My earliest experience teaching was in high school, where I directed and choreographed for my dance team. Following graduation, I became more invested in the field of tutoring and developed a strong interest in teaching math. While this interest began with helping my sister with her calculus homework, I soon expanded my area of expertise to include elementary, middle, and high school students working with math across the curriculum. Through my work with these students, I developed experience in tailoring my approach to meet each student and their level. These opportunities allowed me not only to continue developing my own knowledge of the subject and how to teach it, but also to foster and build professional relationships with my students.

Although I find math fascinating, I recognize that for many students math can be an intimidating subject to learn. I aim to change how individuals approach math by developing a strong foundation of reasoning and problem solving skills and fundamentals. Since I believe students learn better when they understand how the subject applies to their own lives, I also work to help them apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Tutoring 1-on-1 allows me to develop relationships with my students based on understanding and trust, and I utilize the 1-on-1 environment to gain valuable insight into each of my students’ strengths and areas for improvement and to foster students’ confidence.

Aside from tutoring, I enjoy making and exploring different types of coffee and doing activities such as indoor cycling and hot yoga.
