Lyndsay Douglass

Test Prep & Academic Tutor

Biography

I’m a Bay Area native—born and raised in the Menlo Park area. I attended Las Lomitas and La Entrada for elementary school and then went to Woodside for high school. In elementary school I played a variety of sports including basketball, volleyball, and softball while also taking music playing both bells and the clarinet.

In high school I focused on my academics and sports and excelled in AP classes such as English, History, and Science as well as reaching varsity status early in Water Polo and Swim Team. I decided it would be a good idea to broaden my horizons and graduated early with honors so I could be a part of a college-credited backpacking program before attending Santa Clara University. Sports taught me all about discipline and being a team player while my backpacking program showed me I do much better in smaller groups where I can build meaningful relationships and get to know the people around me. Thus, I attended Santa Clara University graduating with a Bachelors in History.

I first discovered my love of teaching when I was 15 volunteering as a teacher’s aide in English, Science, and Special Ed. I loved proofreading essays and lab reports while watching students progress and get better each day. The special ed class taught me finding creative and silly ways to make learning happen make the job so much fun. I use this skill in academics as a tutor and all the positive results are so rewarding; I am genuinely excited when my students reach their goals and achieve higher and higher levels of success than they thought possible.

Having attended a local, private college and actively participating in varsity level athletics in high school all while working jobs gives me a unique perspective on the pressures and requirements placed on high school students, especially in the Bay Area. I understand how crucial time management, organization, and stress relief are to reaching success. I also recognize that every student is an individual with their own learning styles, so finding the most efficient way that each student learns is a top priority. I bring compassion, warmth, and humor to each session, and I do my best to make everyone feel comfortable.

I love to read, write, and spend time in nature! My favorite thing to do is to combine all three and enjoy a variety of books to inspire my poetry after a peaceful hike. In my free time, you’ll probably find me walking my dog, spending time with my local cousins, nieces and nephews, or catching up on news with my brother while playing video games together.

Happy parents and students
