Dipti Dedhia

Los Altos Office Director, Test Prep & Academic Tutor

Biography

I graduated from the University of Connecticut with my undergraduate degree in chemistry and from Brown University with my Master’s in urban education. Before coming to AJ, I had tutored math and science for ten years privately. I have taught students of all ages from middle school, high school, college, and graduate school in math and science as well as the SAT, ACT, MCAT, PCAT, GRE, and GMAT. Physics in particular has been one of my favorite things to explain to struggling students.

I have worked with students who already had a strong knowledge base to strengthen their understanding as well as students who were struggling to cover gaps and build a foundation for further learning. I have seen students increase their GRE scores to over 320 and get admitted to their dream graduate school and middle school students improve by four grade levels during the course of a year (when measured against the national standard). However, I believe that learning goes deeper than performance on a test. The more important measure of success is a thorough understanding of the material covered. In standardized tests such as the SAT and ACT, strategy is often as important as knowing the actual concepts. I enjoy helping students develop the test taking skills that will not only help them on these immediate tests, but also in their academic careers moving forward.

Translating my passion for science and math to current students excites me, because being excited about math and science builds an appreciation for subject matter that creates a lasting base from which to continue learning!

"The most helpful part of my tutoring was the help with revising essays. I feel like I learned a lot and can now proofread and revise my essays to a higher standard."
