Biography

I was born into a family of passionate historians and bibliophiles. From a young age, I enjoyed reading whatever I could get my hands on, and I found the study of the past to be particularly enthralling. I set off to study history at UC Santa Cruz, and the challenging but engaging academic atmosphere proved to be a rewarding and formative experience. I decided I still had more to learn, so I went on to pursue my master’s degree at the San Francisco State University history graduate department.

After graduating, I turned my efforts towards teaching and helping the next generation of students discover the joy of studying history and English. I enjoy helping my students learn the process of writing a compelling essay as well as unpacking difficult texts and finding the connection between passages. The 1-on-1 environment at AJ is highly valuable for this kind of skill-building, in which each learner has unique views on what he or she is reading. My favorite part of tutoring is seeing my students begin to enjoy their classwork and look forward to reading more about what catches their interests.

At AJ, I also enjoy assisting K-8 students develop the fundamental math, reading, writing, and study skills essential to their future academic pursuits. Whether they’re mastering their academics or shoring up test taking skills for the ISEE, SSAT, and HSPT, it’s rewarding to watch them develop greater confidence in their abilities and discover the joys of learning.

As a native San Franciscan, I am a devoted San Francisco Giants fan and sat in the left field club level seats when Travis Ishikawa hit the walk-off home run that clenched the 2014 NL pennant. I’ve never lost my voice so quickly! I am also an avid fan of horror films, music, and comic books.

Happy parents and students
