Course Description:

In this fun, informative summer workshop, students will learn to play a diverse selection of songs on the ukulele and read chords charts and tablature. They will learn the fundamentals of strumming, including the traditional ukulele strum, and will develop important techniques and skills during the process of working through pre-selected and student-chosen songs. In addition, students will learn about the instrument’s international past and about ukulele artists throughout history. The course also includes an optional songwriting component, in which students will have the opportunity to write and fine-tune an original song on the ukulele with positive support and guidance. The class can be accommodated to fit any number of sessions and weeks, but will usually run six weeks (6 or 12 1- or 1.5-hour sessions). By the end of the course, students will be equipped with a ukulele binder full of songs and reference charts/community resources and the skills to read and self-teach countless songs.
